Too Broke to Pay Attention

Flock of Sheep As I meet with people to discuss life and money, I keep coming across a common theme.  This theme is so profound its one of the top services that I provide.  I help people “Pay Attention.”  Life is incredibly busy.  People have jobs to do, children’s schedules to manage with school work, soccer, football, _______ lessons (dance, karate, piano, hockey, voice, etc.), and people are busy serving their communities.

The saying goes, “Time is Money!”  I keep meeting with people who’s calendars are so filled with life events that they are literally “Too Broke (time wise) to pay attention.”

Proverbs 27:23–27  “Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds; for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations.  When the hay is removed and new growth appears and the grass from the hills is gathered in, the lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats with the price of a field.  You will have plenty of goats’ milk to feed you and your family….” (NIV)

One of my goals in coaching is to 1) help people pay attention and 2) put some behavioral practices in place in the way they handle money that creates an easy to follow system.  Part of the way we “give careful attention” to our resources is by developing a cash flow plan and implementing a system that gives every dollar a name and a mission statement.  Once an issue has your attention mentally, its time to give careful attention to a solution for that problem.  If you’d like help learning to manage your money, fill out a comment box.  I can assure you that those who do give careful attention will have plenty to meet their needs.
